After Sandiacre’s 5-2 victory against Clifton, there were some nerves before this fixture for Radford. However, within the opening 15 minutes, those nerves had vanished as defensive leaks were discovered and exploited. Mitchell Tait opened the scoring, as he struck the ball sweetly from the edge of the box into the bottom corner to make it 1-0. At this point, the fans were going wild, but I don’t think anyone could expect what was about to happen. Conor Moore nearly doubled Radford’s tally just after kick-off as he took a pot shot from the halfway line that looped over everyone, however, it ended up wide of the post for a Sandicare goal kick. Just 9 minutes later it was 2-0 Radford, as Connaire Seery got his first for the club in his starting debut. The ball is worked out wide and after some brief build-up it is whipped across the box and it eludes everyone to find Seery at the far post unmarked, and able to head it into a practically empty net. Radford’s attack was not slowing down though, as we then proceeded to get four corners in a row, each one having a different style, but all failing to find the net, and eventually it went out for a goal kick.

The Radford lineup looked strong, even with some key names missing

Towards the end of the first half play began to slow down, and with a 2-0 lead the whistle did go and the players could get a brief break from the action. The second half began with a bang though, as Radford were now attacking towards the supporters behind the goal, and Moore found himself having another crack at a goal from miles out, with it once again narrowly missing the net. A few more chances were created and missed by Radford as we suppressed any Sandiacre attacks and peppered their defence. With an hour gone, Radford had their 3rd goal as a low ball was played in and it bobbled and hobbled past every other player to once again find Seery at the back post who could just sweep it into the net. A brace for Seery, both in similar fashion, but as the saying goes, it doesn’t matter how it goes in the net, just that it does go in.

4 minutes later though, there was a Radford fourth…and more importantly, a Seery hat trick. Connaire nicked the ball off a Sandiacre defender, ran around half their defence and played it to Jevin Seaton who unselfishly held the ball, rolled it back into Seery’s path, and watched him put it in the net. A brilliant bit of play from them two, and Radford were cruising to victory. A few more substitutes came onto the pitch, and then in the 74th minute Seaton got his goal, and what a goal it was. He collected the ball on the far right, cut in and unleashed a beauty of a strike that curled into the far corner and sent every Radford fan into raptures. A fifth for Radford, and yet everyone knew it wasn’t over yet, as just two minutes later Conor Moore finally got his goal, as a corner ended up on the edge of the box and Moore just went up to it and hammered it through the crowd of players and into the net to make it 6-0 for Radford. I couldn’t even keep up with the tweets, so much was happening in such a short amount of time.

The game wasn’t fully over yet, and Sandiacre did get themselves a frustrating consolation goal in the final few minutes after the ball pinged about and was eventually put past Oluyinka Abebowale. It’s not often you can win 6-1 and yet still feel you should’ve left with more, but there was an overall consensus that Radford could have scored 10 or more and kept a clean sheet. The full-time whistle did come early though, as the referee presumably wanted Sandiacre’s suffering to stop. The full-time score was Radford 6, Sandiacre Town FC 1.

The full-time whistle was met with applause and chanting, and rightfully so.

After five low-scoring games for Radford came and went; it was refreshing to see some lethal attacking play get produced. Next up for us is a trip to Holwell. The last time we faced them away; it was a bitter night that had a little bit of everything but we ultimately came away with a 2-1 win.
